Another day. Another disaster.
After surviving a kidnapping and battling with spriggans, Matilda Whipplethorn finds her life in a suburban human house pretty boring. She’s been excluded from school because of her fire-making abilities and her former friends are afraid of her. Salvation comes in the form of a life-threatening illness. Her tutor, Miss Penrose, needs a medication and there’s only one place to get it, the spriggans. Matilda heads back to the antique mall to save Miss Penrose even though it just might cost her everything.
What an enjoyable story.
The author quickly whisks you into an alternate world and the reader’s imagination benefits from it! I loved the world of Matilda. Although she is ‘otherworldly’… she struggles with issues that can easily be related to human life. Matilda faces her struggles heroically and the reader ends up rooting for her to come out on top.
I awarded this book a four star rating for its wonderful characters, its imaginative take on the world of fairy’s and the intricate plot that kept me turning the pages. I look forward to reading the next book in this series.
